OUR HISTORY
The Lake Merritt Breakfast Club was organized in 1933 to promote
the benefits of fellowship and friendship, and to foster and create
interest in - Lake Merritt and its surrounding Park.
In 1948, we sponsored the creation of Children's Fairyland in
Lakeside Park. We continue to provide financial support and volunteer
labor for this world famous children's attraction. Over 14 million
people have visited Fairyland. which truly exem-plifies "A Child's
Dream Come True."
During the 1980's we raised $1.6 million to sponsor the restoration
of the landmark "Necklace of Lights" outlining the shores of Lake
Merritt.
We do not consider ourselves a fund raising organization, but
when the need has arisen, we have met the challenge. For several
years we featured an Annual Tournament featuring golf and tennis.
In 1992, the tournament raised an unprecedented net profit of over
$29,000 for Children's Fairyland.
Yearly events include the annual Emergency Foster Children's
Party, an Annual Barbecue, Children's Fairyland Birthday Party, Inter-City
Breakfasts, and the President's Party (honoring our immediate past president).
At our weekly meetings, we enjoy speakers covering all aspects of business,
government, and the professions -- both locally and nationally known authorities
in their field.
We take pride in our members and their accomplishments in business,
public service, and within the community. LMBC provides a special
kind of support system and members can turn to their Roster when
seeking a friend for consultation or business assistance.
